Feel Like a Part of Royalty in Your Own Bed!

I’m a 25 yrs. old woman living alone in the city and I work eight hours a day. When I go home, I just usually eat dinner, watch my favorite series and go to sleep. Before, I have a single bed that would usually make me feel cramped and more tired when I wake up. I recently bought a king-sized bed and sleeping hasn’t been this good for a long time.

Along with the change in my bed, I had to shop for bed sheets and it’s usually a tiresome thing to do. It’s a good thing that I saw some high-quality king size sheet sets at the mall. I don’t have to buy them separately and it saved me a lot of time. They also look good on my bed because of the same design and accents. So now, when I go home at night, I usually skip watching TV and just go to my bed and feel like a part of the royal family while lying in bed all night long.

Designing a baby room can be fun and challenging. As excitement brews for the new addition to the family, themes nowadays can be as wild and unique as in the past. Modern baby rooms are livened up with barnyard themes, jungle and forest animals or zoo themes, compared to the usual one or two-toned nursery.

Nowadays babies cuddle up in wild and fun animal print sheets. Solid colors in yellow, pink and blue are a tad bit too boring nowadays. Furry friends like the zebra, giraffe, tiger, cow, cheetah, and leopard now make their way to the nursery room. Now isn’t that baby wild!

Soft & Comfortable

Thread count refers to the number of threads, both vertical and horizontal, in a one inch square of fabric. Thread count is affected by different factors, including ply and thickness of the threads used. The ply of a fabric refers to how many threads are wrapped together into a single thread. There are 1500 thread count sheets that are available at most department stores nowadays. The general rule is that the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the sheets will feel.

Egyptian cotton sheets are considered to be some of the finest sheets available. Because these sheets can be made with very high thread counts, usually around a thousand threads per inch, they tend to sell for prices much higher than regular cotton sheets. It is not uncommon to pay well over $100.00 US dollars for an Egyptian cotton sheet set. The high price will be worth it in the long run since you can expect these sheets to last forty to fifty years, or maybe even more.

Deception

Sheets are fundamental pieces of any bed accessories. Consumers look into the quality of the fabric and recent surveys present that the thread count is the most important element a sheet should possess. Sheet manufacturers and industry that sells sheets advertise high thread count as an indication of good quality. What does a thread count really means? Thread count is defined as the number of horizontal and vertical threads in a one-inch square.

The sheeting industry portray that higher thread count means a softer fabric that is more resistant to pilling. Sheet thread counts range from 80 to 1,000. A 600 thread count sheets suggest that the sheet is costly. Some manufacturers practice deceptive marketing by counting two-ply of 300 count threads each as two threads making them as 600 counts. But at the end of the day, it will always be the consumer’s choice of sheets that would best fit the bedroom and comfortable to the skin.

Taking Care of you Bed Linen

If you take good care of your bed linen it will serve you for a long time. It doesn’t matter if they are 1200 thread count sheets, if they are not cared for according to manufacturer instructions, they will give up on you. Care should be given in washing and drying them, in storing them and in their general use. To be sure that you will not forget, keep the tags that we usually cut when we buy a new bed sheet. Keep it somewhere near your wash area.

Here are a few other things to remember:

  • Wash the linens in cool or lukewarm water that’s less than 104 degrees F. No need for hot water.
  • Set wash cycle on “gentle.” The sheets aren’t really dirty.
  • Leave the sheets in the dryer just until dry. Avoid over drying. You’ll just have more wrinkles.
  • Rotate the sheets sets you use frequently so they wear evenly.
  • Use a mattress pad between the mattress and bottom sheet. Wash the pad when needed, at least every few months.

What is the Acceptable Thread Count

If cotton is the best material that can be used in making bed sheets, Egyptian cotton fiber is the best thread that can be used in making cotton fiber. Egyptian cotton fibers are the longest there is, making it the softest and most durable material for making sheets. Egyptian sheets are made of Egyptian fiber; it must be the softest and most durable bedding available. It should be what we should look for when buying sheets. But that is not the only thing to be considered.

There is also the matter of thread count. This is the number of threads per inch in both directions. Fabrics with higher thread count feel more luxurious. For good wear and to get the softest feel, the suggested thread count should be above 250 but no lower than 175. Be sure to check your labels and check if it is anywhere near this number.

Better Qualities of Bamboo Fibers

You wouldn’t know they are made of bamboo fibers just by looking at them. Bamboo sheets look just like beddings made of cotton and other materials. They are just as soft as cotton and as smooth as silk. Like cotton and silk, they also come in pastel or vibrant colors to cater to every taste. And yet they have qualities that make them better than other fabrics.

Bamboo is naturally antimicrobial. It kills bacteria, fungus and microbes. These qualities are carried over to products made out of the bamboo fiber. Bamboo sheets are antimicrobial and odor free. They also wick moisture from the skin making them evaporate into the air. This keeps a sweaty person drier and more comfortable when he wakes up.

Other Uses of Bed Sheets

Bedding sheets are standard home needs. We use them to cover our mattresses. Most homes will normally have different sizes of beddings that will fit different sizes of mattresses. The queen or king-sized bed in the master’s bedroom, twin beds for young children and crib beddings in the baby’s room will all need beddings in specific sizes. Normally we tend to collect more sheets or otherwise, than we need. Stores are always coming out with beautiful colors and patterns that entice us to purchase more.

As bed sheets seem to have an endless life, we should learn to use them for other purposes. My favorite in this regard is the flat sheet. They can be recycled into almost anything. You can use them to cover a table or a couch. You can cut them up and turn them into pillows. I am sure there will be more creative things that you can think of.

Brittney’s Wedding

Thursday, April 28, 2011

Our friend Brittney is getting married in a month. Our circle of friends has been helping her out in almost all the aspects of the wedding. One gets to go with her and her fiancée when they go see the cake artist. One gets to accompany her choosing brides maids gowns. I go with her to help her get the basic furnishings of their soon first home.

The last time we shopped it was for the beddings. I had earlier helped Brittney out with the color scheme of each of the three rooms so now it was time to shop for the sheets. But did she want the 800 thread count sheets or something else? Does she want the one with the comforters or just the sheets? I’m getting enough practice when I myself marry and have my own first home too.
