We all want to buy new things, specially those things that we use everyday like our mattress. But most of the time, our budget just won’t allow it. An economical solution to upgrading your mattress is by purchasing a foam mattress topper. These mattress toppers simply lay on top of your old mattress and immediately increases the quality and comfort of your much deserved sleep. It’s just like having a whole new mattress.

A foam mattress topper is a cushioned pad that sits on top of a foam mattress. It usually comes with straps that are placed around the corners of the bed to minimize slipping and sliding of the pad. A lot of people use a mattress topper to soften up a bed that feels too firm. If you’re already feeling uncomfortable in your bed mattress, but cannot afford a new one, then the most inexpensive way to extend the life of that bed mattress is a foam mattress topper. Try it out and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

There is a cushion made from compressed polyester, which is reputed to be better than traditional foam. This product is called Nu-Foam padding which has lots of great qualities that makes it far superior than polyurethane foam. It is sometimes also known as densified polyester fibers. It does not disintegrate and it will resist mildew as well. It is mostly used for making baby bumper pads, boat cushions, deck furniture as well as playpen mats.

The Nu-Foam is completely washable and is non-allergenic. It is also flame retardant which makes it great as an alternative work surface. You can definitely use this product in a lot of creative ways. Some people even use this as an alternative to felting foams since it gives them a safe work area as well as a larger one. The Nu-Foam also comes in pre-cut sizes and in rolls, mostly in one and two inch thickness.

Things to Consider when Buying a Futon

When purchasing a futon, you will have to determine first and foremost the integrity of the frame. If it has a metal frame, the slats should at least be two and a half inches wide. Thinner slats might not be able to provide support for a full size futon mattress. The same should be considered when mulling over futons with wooden slats. In addition, check the kind of wood that is used to make the slats.

The mattress used on a futon is usually not as thick as a regular bed mattress. The futon bed is after all intended only for day use. As futon frames have no specific dimensions, the right size might be a little difficult to find. They will differ in terms of heaviness, firmness and flexibility. Because of this it will be safer to buy a futon mattress from the store rather than just order it to be delivered.

Sleeping Right

There is one thing I remember clearly about my childhood. It is the bunk bed which I grew up in. I also remember going to the big department store where we got to choose from the different types of bunkbed mattresses. It was like going to bunkbed heaven. I got to choose my own mattress and chose a white one which was very soft. I can still recall all the wonderful dreams I had while sleeping on that mattress.

My brother and I shared a room when I was growing up. I had the top bunk in our bunk bed. Choosing the right bunkbed mattress is important as this will affect the way you sleep. It should be soft but firm enough to support your back. You need to make sure that you have chosen the right mattress since you will be using it for a long time. Investing in a good quality mattress is worthwhile if it means sleeping peacefully at night.

Mattress Protection

A lot of people rely on vacuum cleaners to keep the surface of their mattresses clean. However, once a stain is already there, it can be difficult to remove completely. Prevent this from happening as much as possible. Protect your mattress using a mattress topper.

Uncovered mattresses can get stained easily by sweat which passes through standard cloth sheets. Mattress toppers keep the mattress clean by securing it from absorbing body fluids and spilled liquids. You can choose from flat rubberized flannel pads or special breathable fitted covers.
