Comforters are great to have and use. They are warm and cozy. Goose down comforters are even better. They are light, breathable and offer a special kind of insulation. We’d use them every day if we could.
Most people have the impression of comforters goose down being items of high maintenance. Since they are special they also need special laundering. Are they supposed to be dry cleaned? Not necessarily so. All you need is a large enough washing machine. Wash with cold water in gentle cycle with a mild detergent. It may take a little bit longer to dry but you can always hang it out under to sun to help the drying process.
The Better Qualities of Egyptian Cotton Sheets
Egyptian cotton is believed to be the best cotton available. It is fine, lustrous, long, staple cotton that is grown in Egypt. Because of these qualities, they are synonymous with quality. These qualities affect the thread count that is the measure of durability and comfort. Egyptian cotton is even believed to absorb dyes better and produce more vibrant colors.
It is no wonder that an Egyptian cotton bed sheet is the choice of many. It boasts of strong fibers and a smooth texture. It even becomes smoother over time. Another sign of its durability is that they produce less lint. The material will remain thick and warm even after years of use.
Why Use Flannel Sheets
A true flannel was originally made from carded wool or worsted yarn. It is much sought after because it is a soft and warm material which makes very good sheets and blankets. They were also commonly made into shirts that were worn by woodsmen. Today, flannel is often made from wool or cotton. Sometimes, synthetic fibers are used.
Flannel sheets may have been outshined by the many different kinds of sheets in the market with unique features. But people still take it upon themselves to store full size flannel sheets for use in the winter months. We may have been enticed by the luxurious feel of Egyptian cotton sheets and find that the heat of the flannel is a little bit too much. But we know that when it is really cold, there is nothing that can appease us than a flannel sheet. It provides the best comfort on cold winter nights.
Luxury Bedding Factors
People who have experienced using luxury bedding now look for bed sheets with high thread counts. In general, sheets become softer and smoother to the touch as the thread count increases. Thus, a 1500 thread count sheet set is definitely more superior to, say, a 180 thread count sheet set. However, comparison shopping is made difficult because retailers set wildly contrasting price points.
When shopping for luxury bedding such as those with 1000, 1200, and 1500 thread counts, consider the following factors:
- Thread size will decrease as thread count increases
- The fiber’s length is more important in making a luxurious fabric than thread count
- Threads are twisted before they are woven together to achieve higher thread count. Twisted threads, or multi ply are not as sturdy as single ply threads.
