Satin is a material that has a glossy surface and a dull back. In earlier days satin was exclusively woven from silk fibers. Currently they are being made from nylon and polyester as well. Aside from its glossy appearance satin is also sought after because it is soft to the touch. The gloss and softness of the material is the result of a special weaving process.

Satin is commonly used in the production of women’s apparel including lingerie, nightgowns, blouses and evening gowns. It is also much in demand in men’s shirts and neckties. Home decorating has found use for it in the form of draperies, upholstery and beddings. Satin pillow cases and bed sheets have always been considered the epitome of comfort and elegance when it comes to bed linens. They are also believed good for the skin and hair.

My Three Nieces

I have three beautiful nieces! I would love to see more of them but, since they live in another state, the only time I get to see them is during special occasions like this past holiday season. Nevertheless, I always make sure that the little time we are able to spend together is full of fun.

I always spend at least a week with them during the holidays. A brief respite for my sister and a grand time for me. I take my nieces shopping and around the mall. We spend hours talking just catching up on everything that’s been happening with them. We prepare and cook meals together. We basically think of everything we can do together and try to fit it in the week when I am with them. My favorite time with them is when we are all on the bed together. The eldest always takes out the childrens comforters, lay it on the bed and we just watch a movie or read books while warm and comfortable. I love this specific moment with them. It is my time to just stare at them when they fall asleep and continue to be amazed at how fast they grow and how beautiful they all are. I hope it is this way again next time I come to visit.

Very Practical Gifts

We live in a very cold house. The heater always malfunctions and the windows have spaces where the wind could enter at will. After my husband was laid off from work last year, there wasn’t enough money to have broken things fixed. Sometimes, the whole family would just sleep in the living room together in front of the fireplace to keep warm.

This Christmas, we were surprised to receive several comforter sets from my sibling’s family. They visited us in October and stayed overnight. I guess they also felt the coldness of the house. I’m glad they have been sensitive to our needs and provided us with those useful things.

More and more farmers all over the world are being encouraged to switch to growing organic products. One example is organic cotton which is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. When you choose to use a cotton organic sheet at home, you are also choosing to help replenish and maintain soil fertility.

Patronizing organic cotton products moreover help reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers on crops. This translates to building a more biologically diverse agriculture. There are third-party organizations that certify what methods and materials are allowed for producers to use in organic production.

It’s always nice to feel comfy with clean, long-lasting and pleasant bed sheets. That can only happen if the sheets are made of good quality cotton and it pays to know the different types of cotton. Regular cotton is the lowest grade of cotton. Pima cotton is grown in Arizona and other arid climates; it offers additional softness and durability. The best cotton is Egyptian cotton. It is the softest and most durable.

California king sheet sets are made of the finest cotton available. You can choose from several packages. There are percale sheets of 300 thread count; and Egyptian cotton sheets with the longest fiber. The sets are available in 4 pieces in king and queen sizes. By knowing the differences, shoppers can rest assure that they are getting exactly what they are looking for.

Faithfully Holding On

I work overseas and away from my family for long periods of time. I miss them terribly specially during the holidays and other special occasions. I do try my best to keep my head up knowing that we will be together in the future but I cannot help to feel a little lonely, too.

I have been working overseas on a cruise ship and is away from the family for about 8-10 months at a time. It is very difficult to while away my time with activities that can occupy my mind for more than three hours. I find myself thinking of the wife I left and the children I never see growing up. Although this is the case, I am still very thankful for the blessings that my family and I receive everyday. My family and I are always safe despite being far away from each other. We are able to communicate every other day with the help of technology. We are able to send tokens to each other every month (like the organic sheets I sent her a few months ago). All these things are blessings to us and we all continue to hope that I come home safe every time. We are all awaiting the day that I retire and we can all be together. We are faithfully holding on for each other and our children.
