Satin is a material that has a glossy surface and a dull back. In earlier days satin was exclusively woven from silk fibers. Currently they are being made from nylon and polyester as well. Aside from its glossy appearance satin is also sought after because it is soft to the touch. The gloss and softness of the material is the result of a special weaving process.
Satin is commonly used in the production of women’s apparel including lingerie, nightgowns, blouses and evening gowns. It is also much in demand in men’s shirts and neckties.
