Living Away from Home

My parents and I have a very good relationship in comparison to most families who live in different states. I grew up in a small town in Iowa but I was able to make it big as a broker and moved out of the house when I was only 21years old. Since then, I have lived on my own in my apartment in Los Angeles and quite content.

My parents and I talk on the phone almost all the time. They are free to call me anytime and they’re on my speed dial and chat with them while waiting on a client. I have offered to find them a house near me but they refused and told me that they are happy in Iowa. So, every two or three months, I’d go down to Iowa and visit for a weekend. I love the fact that they always keep my room just the way it is. My things are always clean and my down comforter set always smells fresh. It was almost as if I come home everyday. Maybe this is the secret to my success as a broker. I make sure that the homes I find for the families who are looking have the same quality and feel that my home gives me; security and comfort.

My Boss and My Wife

My wife is very loving and attentive and I must admit that I often take her for granted. So, for our 10th anniversary, I made reservations for a weekend away in a private cabin to make it up to her. The place was recommended by my boss for its excellent service and quality.

It was everything that I expected. The food was a delight to feast upon. The room was elegant, spacious, and luxurious. The view was romantic and beautiful. My wife and I had a wonderful weekend reminiscing and drinking exquisite wine by the fireplace. I wanted the weekend to last forever. I thought my wife wanted that, too. When we got home, she told me that the weekend was great and she was very appreciative of the gesture. She did tell me, however, that if I ever needed to give my boss anything then she suggests luxury bedding sheets to take along at the cabin. She’s sure that my boss would be highly appreciative of that. I just laughed!

Hush Little Baby Don’t You Cry

One of my neighbors who live about two doors down the hallway recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy. And when I say healthy, I mean his lungs are very strong. I hear him crying almost all day and, not to mention, almost all night, too. Don’t get me wrong. I love babies but this ‘crying episodes’ is not good for anyone, specially for me. I decided to do something about it.

Late afternoon yesterday, when I heard the baby crying again (for the nth time), I marched down my neighbor’s apartment and knocked on the door. As the crying became louder (hinting that the mother is nearing the door), I took out the softest and most luxurious organic baby bedding I could find. As she opened the door, I showed her the bedding, wrapped it around the baby, and waited. After a few seconds, the baby stopped crying. I nodded at the mother and went back to my own apartment. For the first time in a month, I was able to sleep soundly all night.
